Information On Mice In The House

Posted on: 13 May 2020

Mice are small and sneaky, and they really know how to get inside a house when they want to get in. It's important to learn about some of the most common ways that mice tend to get inside houses so you can cut down on your chances of having an infestation in your house. If you have mice in the house, then you are going to want to have a pest control company like Quality  Termite &  Pest Control Inc come out to get rid of the problem for you. Then, you also want to know how to properly clean up after your mice problem has been taken care of for you. Here is information on these things:

Mice can come in through spaces underneath doors

There are many reasons why you don't want to have a space under your door. However, one of the big reasons is because this is literally like opening the door to mice, and they will be very happy to come right in. One of the reasons a door may have a space is that it wasn't quite long enough to fill the whole doorframe the way it should. Another reason is that the threshold is old and has lost a bit of its height. Either way, replacing the old threshold with a new one may fill in enough of the space that even mice that can squeeze through extremely small spaces won't be able to come in.

Mice can come in through small spaces next to pipes coming into the house

There will be holes cut in the walls of your home to fit the plumbing pipes through from the outside to the inside. While these holes should be cut just right so they barely allow the pipe to fit through them, they can often be cut just a tad bit too big. Just that small amount can be enough for a mouse to get right into your house. You can use a tube of caulking and a caulking gun to seal up those spaces. If any plumbing is moved in your house at any time, it is extremely important for you to make sure you verify the hole has been covered. If not, you are going to want to cut a piece of plywood and secure it in place yourself.

Mice need to be cleaned up after carefully

Once a pest control company has cleared out your mice issues, you want to stay on top of cleaning up any leftover nests or excrement you find. While hantavirus is rare, it is an illness that can be spread by disturbing dry mouse feces so the virus gets inhaled through the air you breathe. The safest way to clean mouse excrement is to wear an N95 mask and gloves. Spray bleach water on the excrement to dampen it, then clean it up carefully, as to not stir things up. Vacuuming or using a house broom is a bad idea because the dust can really get stirred. Instead, once it is damp with the bleach water, you can throw a plastic bag over it, then pick it up.

From Skunks to Bugs

Almost any animal can become a household pest if the situation is right. Skunks, for example, usually build their nests outdoors, but if you happen to have a hole in your garage wall, a skunk might move in and take advantage of your warmth. Rats can also move into your home, as can a variety of insects, from earwigs to ants. If you would like to learn more about detecting these pests, getting rid of them, and keeping them away, then read the articles here. We are not pest control professionals ourselves, but we do have a lot of knowledge about this topic, and we're excited to share that knowledge with you.
