Posted on: 23 April 2020

No matter where you live, every part of the country has some form of pest or insect that can be a problem if you are not proactive about keeping them under control. For many people, regular pest control services are a part of everyday life, and working with a pest control company to keep your home pest-free may be something you want to consider.

Home Inspections

If you are having a problem with any pest in your home, calling a pest control company and requesting a home inspection is an excellent place to start. The pest control company will come out to the house and do a complete inspection of everywhere that pests can get in and see what areas you need to consider treating to rid your home of unwanted bugs and other pests.

Some of the most common places people find bugs or small animals are behind or under appliances because it is warm there, inside cabinets where it is dark and sheltered, and under sinks near water sources. The pest control expert will look at all the places you may have problems and then look at options to resolve it for you.

Preventing Problems

One of the most important things you can do to prevent pests from coming into the house, to begin with, is to keep your house clean. Sweeping the floors regularly, washing down counters, and not leaving dishes in the sink or food out that will attract bugs to your home are all important. In many cases, once you have a pest problem, it is hard to get rid of the pests and can involve many treatments over several months to do the job.

Treating the Problem Areas

Once the pest control company has located any problem areas, they can begin to treat those areas with baits and other products to stop the movement of the pests or get them to take the bait back to the nest for their rest of the colony to eat. Baiting is an excellent way to destroy the colony, and when barrier chemicals are used as well, the pest control company can very quickly start to get some control over the pest problem,

If you have children and pets in your home, you need to make sure that the treatments that the pest control company is using will work without hurting the kids or the animals. Most pest control companies are using products that are safe for pets and people, but it is essential that you ask what they are using and if it is safe or not.

From Skunks to Bugs

Almost any animal can become a household pest if the situation is right. Skunks, for example, usually build their nests outdoors, but if you happen to have a hole in your garage wall, a skunk might move in and take advantage of your warmth. Rats can also move into your home, as can a variety of insects, from earwigs to ants.
